Approximately three years ago (2023-08-30), the dissident media organization Dystopia of Distortion started broadcasting on WIIT 88.9FM. They were detected by Surveillance, who intercepted their transmission during a routine check on the Smooth Jazz broadcast that normally occurs on Wednesday evenings.

The Organization

Dystopia of Distortion is a dissident media organization classified at Risk Level 1, an imminent danger to the public. They broadcast over the weekly Smooth Jazz broadcasts with hard rock and metal music intended to incite revolution.

They have stated on air that their goal is to create “a new era of hard rock and metal”. ORDER has not deciphered what this means yet.

Members

The exact number of individuals involved in Dystopia of Distortion’s operations are presently unknown. The only identity that ORDER has been able to uncover is that of their leader, Dustin Thomas. He seems to be orchestrating all operations and is the primary point of contact for broadcasts.

Broadcasts

In all observations of Dystopia of Distortion broadcasts, they have originated from WIIT’s existing infrastructure. No third-party station has been detected. They have been operating in a bunker located in [REDACTED], which they presumably route through WIIT’s studio somehow.

Signals has obtained recordings of their previous broadcasts and performed deep spectrum analysis on the audio. No psychoactive elements were detected, so it is unlikely that they are utilizing subliminal messaging techniques.

Investigators

The case was originally led by Investigator 11A. After two years, he was discovered to have been influenced by the dissident media, charged with high treason and summarily executed. (See IA-11A-1 for more information.) The case was upgraded to Risk Level 1 and is now top priority.

As of August 2025, the Chief Investigator is now leading this case.

Timeline

• 2023-08-30: Initial Dystopia of Distortion broadcasts begin.
• 2024-09-03: Surveillance identifies dissident media organization as Dystopia of Distortion, discovers identity of leader Dustin Thomas
• 2024-09-25: Investigations discovers Mr. Thomas’s alleged affiliation with WIIT, presumes two different individuals. WIIT’s Mr. Thomas also hosts a radio show called Mini Margaritaville.
• 2024-10-09: Online broadcast at WIIT fails for 28 hours due to malfunctioning equipment. Some believe that Dystopia of Distortion was responsible; Investigator 11A believes otherwise (Note: this has been invalidated. See IA-11A-1 for more information.)
• 2024-10-16: ORDER publicly acknowledges Dystopia of Distortion as a threat.
• 2024-12-03: Mini Margaritaville ceases broadcasting.
• 2025-08-13: Investigator 11A is found guilty of high treason and executed. Dystopia of Distortion is escalated to Risk Level 1.
• 2025-12-10: Enforcement campaign begins.
• 2026-01-28: Broadcasts takes direct control over most Chicago media outlets.
• 2026-02-04: Signals tracing operation begins, DystopiaNet server located in Northern Virginia.
• 2026-04-29: Dustin Thomas is captured by Enforcement.
